This is a C 1850 English Apothecary Scale in Mahogany Box. The scale is a steel equal arm beam scale with box ends and glass pans. One of the glass pans has been broken but strings are intact. The beam is 17.5 cm long and the pans are 6.3 cm in diameter. There is a brass rod that screws in the top of the case for balancing the scale. The mahogany box originally lifted up but was converted to a drawer. The box measures 23.2 cm x 11.5 cm. There are 6 brass weights, 2, 1, 1/2 drams 2, 1, 1/2 scruples and 7 grain weights, 6,5,4,3,2,1 1/2; as well as a small glass measuring tube and a tortoise shell spoon. In addition, there is a hand written weight chart on the inside bottom of the box. With the exception of the broken glass pan, this is an outstanding scale.
