This is a 19th Century English Apothecary Scale, The box is labeled on the bottom “W. H. Hutchison Surgical Instrument Makers of Sheffield”. The scale is brass equal arm beam scale marked “Tivoli” with swan neck ends and brass and glass pans. The beam is 14.8 cm long and the pans are 6.8 cm in diameter. The Mahogany box is in wonderful condition and the inside is lined with a red velvet. The dimensions of the box are 21.6 cm x 10.3 cm. The bottom of the box has a partial label showing the maker. The brass hinges are in excellent condition and there is keyed lock but no key. The box contains a bone or ivory spoon, a brass case for holding the smaller weights and 12 apothecary weights, 2,1, 1/2 drams, 2,1,1, scruples, 10,3,3,3,2,2, grains. This scale is in outstanding condition.
