This is a wonderful English Apothecary scale made by John Young. He was a prominent English scale maker in the late 1700’s and early 1800’s. He made scales under the name “John Young Scale Maker to His Majesty” from 1802 - 1810. The scale is an equal arm beam with box ends and Sterling Silver pans with hallmarks. The beam is 14.8 cm long and the pans are 5.7 cm in diameter The box is Mahogany and the label is very much intact. There is also the green Baize on the bottom. The hinges are in great shape, The clasps on the top of the box are missing. The scale is in excellent condition overall. There are 6 weights: 1/2, 1 & 2 drachms and 1/2, 1 & 2 scruples.
