This is a wonderful James Hartfield Kernot Steel Engraving of a Water Mill which was done from a painting by Jacob Van Ruisdael around 1834. The original name of the painting was “A Thatch-Roofed House with a Water Mill” and was painted around 1653. Kernot (1828 - 1856) Was an engraver of landscapes but not much more is known about him. His work appeared in a number of books in the 19th century. This piece is professionally framed with a double mat and held in a smoke free home. The framed dimensions are 11 5/8” x 10 1/2” and the engraving is 5 7/8” x 5”.
